“Change is coming anyway. We cannot abide an ever-greater share of the nation’s income and wealth going to the top while median household incomes continue to drop, one out of five of our children living in dire poverty, and big money taking over our democracy.
At some point, working people, students, and the broad public will have had enough. They will reclaim our economy and our democracy. This has been the central lesson of American history.” — Robert Reich
Senator Dianne Feinstein’s 25 years of service in the Senate are appreciated, but after five terms, the time has come for a representative who reflects the fresher, bolder, much more progressive direction California is moving.
Robert Reich understands the urgent need to change the trajectory that American politics has taken since the Tea Party takeover of 2010. A Rhodes Scholar and former Labor Secretary named one of the 10 Most Effective Cabinet Secretaries of the 20th Century by TIME Magazine, with a distinguished career in both politics and higher education, he is uniquely qualified to lead us in that direction. From op-eds to media appearances, holding "office hours" – both on campus and social media – Robert has been a tireless educator and fierce advocate for America’s necessary course correction.
An early supporter of Bernie Sanders, Robert Reich voiced in his endorsement the need for the people – all of us – to reclaim our government:
“He’s leading a movement to reclaim America for the many, not the few. And such a political mobilization – a “political revolution,” as he puts it – is the only means by which we can get the nation back from the moneyed interests that now control so much of our economy and democracy.
This extraordinary concentration of income, wealth, and political power at the very top imperils all else – our economy, our democracy, the revival of the American middle class, the prospects for the poor and for people of color, the necessity of slowing and reversing climate change, and a sensible foreign policy not influenced by the “military-industrial complex,” as President Dwight Eisenhower once called it. It is the fundamental prerequisite: We have little hope of achieving positive change on any front unless the American people are once again in control.”
Robert Reich understands California, its successes, and where things need to be improved. Understanding California is also the the prescription that can be extrapolated to the entire country; a true rising tide lifts all boats:
“But overall, the contrast is clear. Economic success depends on tax revenues that go into public investments, and regulations that protect the environment and public health. And true economic success results in high wages.”
This path to success can be replicated for the country. But to achieve the change necessary to attain these goals, it requires a representative who not only sees the problems clearly, but will also stand strong for solutions that will benefit everyone, not just a few special interests. That person is Robert Reich.
